Midnight Safari
WILD DROP 07
October 2026
I’ve always been fascinated by how different the wild feels at night. Once the sun goes down, the landscape changes completely. Color recedes, familiar forms become silhouettes, and sometimes the first thing you notice is a pair of eyes looking back at you.
WILD DROP 07: Midnight Safari explores that world through eight new paintings of wildlife after dark. Impalas, giraffes, lions, elephants, cheetahs, hyenas, a hornbill, and an ostrich emerge from deep purple, violet, and black landscapes, each painting capturing a different encounter within the same imagined night.
There’s something both funny and humbling about looking for wildlife at night. You’re staring into the darkness, trying to find an animal that has probably already noticed you. That became one of my favorite ideas to play with throughout the collection. The animals aren’t simply being observed. Instead, they’re often looking directly back.
At its heart, WILD DROP 07: Midnight Safari is about that moment of encounter: seeing familiar animals differently, paying closer attention, and keeping some of the mystery that makes the wild feel wild.
